8!

Dearest Sakkti Velan,

Happy birthday, son. May you have many happy return of this day.

You're so talented, and quiet now. You have your naughty moments (more often than not I should say) but every year I notice that you have turned more serious....maybe you're growing up=)

Big hugs, baby.......stay you!

Love,
AMMA & APPA

Tokoh Nilam

Congratulations on becoming the Tokoh Nilam, son.

I can see you have really developed a passion for reading.......except that your tendency to read books on reptiles and dinosaurs is a little unsettling.....sigh....must be the genetics

Tooth fairy

Dear Sakkti Velan,

So you do not believe in the tooth fairy? Sad to hear that, son.

But you heard from your school friends that the tooth fairy left them money in exchange for the teeth? Yes, that's what happens when you put your tooth under the pillow - I told you so, son.

I know Patti told you to throw away the first milk tooth that fell off today, but maybe we can save the next one for the tooth fairy?

We'll see what happens when you DO put the tooth under the pillow....

here's a picture of you for your records.....hehehehehhe

AMMA

2012 School Concert

Dear Sakkti Velan,

Appu, you are indeed your father's son. You have the same seriousness and lack of grace when you are on stage that your father also has.

Suprisingly, your teacher had put you in a number of items. You danced the pompom ( in which only you bototm half of the body moved) for KG1 and then you were dancing with the KG2 children, doing a "Bila Larut Malam" and dancing with a girl whose name you don't even know. And then the highlight of the day, which had me in stitches no doubt, was the fact that you took part in the modelling. It was a scream!

Ammama said you probably take instrucions very well and that's why Mrs Kuna put you in so many items.

Anyway, you do us proud. We love you, son.

Hugs,
Amma

Tadika Fantasi Ria

Dearest Sakkti Velan,

You went to your new kindergarten today but you cried. The teacher took you away and then I was informed that you stopped crying. But just so you know, I was sitting outside your classroom th whole time.

Don't worry, you'll be fine, study hard, son.

Hugs,
Amma

Report Card Day

Dear Small Tiger,

You've done very well in your exams, you scored above 90 for you Bahasa, English and Maths. Your Amma's very proud of you. Needless to say I am too.

SO....I guess I sort of knew you'll do alright in your exams.....never thought of it in any other way.

Keep going, son.

Love,
Big Lion

The RiCe PoT

Congratulations, baby, you’ve made it to the 1metre mark today. And you’ve put on a bit of weight- you’re about 14kgs now......

Wish you would a whole lot of other things other than rice, though. You seem to like McDonald’s well enough, and you're pretty fond of fries too.....and you seem to like fruits well enough....

You’re like your Appa, son, less snacking, more rice.....

I wish you WOULD eat a bit more biscuits, bread, cookies, chocolate....it would definitely make packing food to schoool easier for me........

SV’s monkey

Dear Sakkti Velan,

During our family gathering at PD this weekend, we went to the Ostrich farm and a baby monkey just stared climbing all over you! I was freaking out, but you were very brave, and allowed the monkey to climb all the way up your head.

I could see that the little brother of yours was a bit jealous of the whole incident, but he definitely got scared when the monkey started to come closer to him.

Good experience for you there, son. Just be careful you don't attract a baby tiger or something!

Hugs,
Amma

The Prefect at Home

Dear Sakkti Velan,

Thank you for helping me look after Eshvarhen. You're a real gem when you run off to take the nappy rash cream because Eshvarhen has developed a nappy rash. I think you're begining to love you little brother even though it seems to me that he's learning to pick a fight with you now.

I tickles me to note your concern on whether Eshvahren has slept off in the car, or if he has finished all of his milk.

Appa says you're like a little Prefect at home. I think you're just being bossy, and it's extremely cute.

Hugs,
Amma

What colour?

Dearest baby Sakkti Velan,

You always ask me, “What colour?” “What colour, Amma”….you say, pointing to everything. And if I ever ask you back the same question, you tell me its “green” colour. Always green colour.

But I’m happy to report that recently, the selection of your colours have improved to “yellow”, an occasional “orange” and now “red”.

No worries, son…you just go right ahead and ask me. I’ll tell you “what colour”

Love,
Amma

Another note for Sakkti Velan

Dear Sakkti Velan,

Hello, son, Amma hasn't been writing to you in a while, but I guess today is as good a day to write....

Well, you're 2 years and 8 months old, and you sing all the time, baby! You sing along with the tv, you sing along with the radio and you sing along when I sing Eshvarhen his lullabies. If I never come around to telling you, baby, please know that I AM JUST SO PROUD OF YOU! You've got the music in you, alright=). Please NEVER forget that you could sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star completely with such clarity at this age that leaves me speecless....

Anyway, you're very busy these days with your play dough and your "house" games. You like to build a house for yourself with the cushions and bolsters, and you can keep yourself occupied that way for a really long time.

When you're not playing with the dough or playing house, you're watching TV. Your craze at this moment is the Donald Duck cartoon home and the Superman cartoon at Ammama's house. You can even tell me how the DVD player works.

Oh, did I mention you love crocodiles. It's probably because Appa watches the documentary channel with you ( I also suspect it's genetical). You also keep asking us to show you the zebra, which actually means you want to go to the zoo.

You understand all conversations in Tamil and English, to a point that Appa and I speak in Malay if we don't want you to understand the conversation.

You're crazy about your brother-- I know you don't like it when he takes your toys, but you look for him whenever he's missing.

You've also got a temper.......and we're doing all we can to check it now so it does not get out of hand.

Alright, baby, I think I've jotted down enough for now. Keep singing, baby.

Hugs Always,
Amma

An entry by Amma

Darling Sakkti Velan,

Amma is logging down all your developments here since your last entry, since you’re doing so many new things everyday, I’m afraid that I’ll forget all your little milestones before this month is over.

It’s August 2009, and since March this year, Amma has observed a tremendous amount of development in your vocabulary, understanding and play. Perhaps, what amazes me the most is your imagination….

You’re now 11kg and 87 cm. Each time we take you to the hospital (you should know that you’re very prone to the viral flu that we make a trip to the hospital once a month at least), you amaze the nurses with your willing cooperation to stand on the weighing scale and allowing your height to be taken. Perhaps you amazed your paediatrician the most, when you patiently asked for a different colour jelly instead of the one he offered you!

You can now say, very clearly, the numbers 1-20. Appa endlessly tries to teach you your ABCs, but you should know that you’re being very un-cooperative in that area. You are able to recognise all relationships with peoples, even those of our friends whom you call Uncle and Aunty, and I think everyone adores you all the more for it.

You sing very well, darling, and you also sing along to the music on the radio, even though we don’t know what it is you are actually singing then. You sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, and cut your own imaginary birthday cake (after blowing your own imaginary candles) each time you sing Happy Birthday. I know a lot of people won’t believe this, but you also sing along with Amma when I sing you the Bhajans to put you to sleep.

You now occasionally turn into an imaginary puppy, and you like to crawl while going about the house, barking. Sometimes, you pull off the table cloth from the coffee table, gallantly declare, “Woof Woof Come” and then become this imaginary puppy.

You’re terribly addicted to television, although, in your words, “TV’ actually means cartoon. It safe to say that we are currently having a problem trying to convince you to switch channels, but we do anyway, and when we do, you always complain.

Your favourite toy at the moment is your colouring book, and a set of Animal Dominoes you Periamma Sherlin bought you. And, son, you love playing with dolls. Appa does not encourage it, but I see no harm in playing with the doll. It will only help you prepare for the forthcoming of Thambi.

Of course you know there’s a Thambi in Amma’s belly, but Amma’s not sure how your actual reaction will be like. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when Thambi actually comes home from the hospital.

A letter from Amma

Dearest Sakkti Velan,

How are you, my kandu kutty? Amma’s missing you like crazy.

It snowed here in Geneva today. It’s my first experience with snow, son, and I wished deep down in my heart that your Appa and you were here with me to share the joy of my first snow. I can only imagine how you would be pointing enthusiastically as the snow falls, with your sound effects that leave your Appa and me in stitches.

I heard you are enjoying yourself with your cousins. Amma wishes you all the fun, it’s not often you get a chance to play with children your age.

Each time I see a child on the road or in the departmental stores, all wrapped up in their winter attire, I can only see and imagine how you would look all wrapped up like that. Though, I doubt you would sit as patiently as these children in their prams. You would be wriggling and uneasy, needing to run free.

It’s been four long days, and I’m counting down the next 72 hours before I see you and your Appa again.

I look forward to Sunday more than I look forward to the 6 o’clocks every evening when I can fly home to see you and cuddle you.

Amma’s sleeping with your bolster, so I am comforted by your familiar scent. I wish you were here wit me so I can cuddle you to sleep.

Tell you Appa that I miss him too, and I miss his reassuring presence.

Good might, my love, and kiss your Appa goodnight for me.

Hugs so tight,
Amma

Teething without the BLUES

Dearest Sakkti Velan
Your teeth have come out, two on the top and two on the bottom gums. I dont' think you're feel exactly that uncomfortable.
Only occasionally, you like to bite your fingers. ….or the Vicks bottle. .….or the powder bottle.

Somehow I think you find biting these things A WHOLE lot more interesting than your various toys. ……..

Ayya's first fall......OUCH!

Baby Sakkti Velan,

Today you had your first fall while you were trying to reach for your bolster;  you fell down from the bed and landed on your forehead. I had a shock and screamed for Mina Pathi. You wailed.

Mina Pathi rubbed your forehead and the swelling subsided.

I shouldn't have left you on the bed even for that split second, baby. Yur were too quick for me...

This site, Colossal Adventures by Sakkti Velan is especially dedicated to you, so that you will know how you grew, and your childhood will forever remain in Amma's and Appa's hearts.

We'll record your my everyday adventures. I guess since you're soooo small (or tiny even!), every thing you do is COLOSSAL to Amma and Appa. Hence the name of the blogpage, Colossal Adventures.
Welcome to the family, son.
